Type 2 Hard Hats: Enhanced Side & Top Protection with Customization for All Safety Classes
What Is a Type 2 Hard Hat?
Defined by the American National Standards Institute Z891.1-2014, Type 2 hard hats are engineered for enhanced protection, providing defense against both top and side impacts. Unlike Type 1 hard hats, which only protect against direct top impacts, Type 2 hard hats are essential in high-risk environments where workers face lateral hazards, like swinging equipment and unpredictable machinery. This dual-impact safety feature makes the Type 2 hard hat ideal for demanding work conditions. Although we do not currently have any hard hats that meet the Type II standard, we have a large selection of Type 1 Hard Hats.
Key Features of Type 2 Hard Hats

Class Options for Type 2 Hard Hats
Choose from Class C, Class E, and Class G Type 2 hard hats to meet the specific electrical protection requirements of your job:
- Class C (Conductive): Ideal for non-electrical work environments, Type 2 Class C hard hats focus on providing side and top impact protection without electrical insulation. Their lightweight, breathable design is perfect for construction, manufacturing, and general labor roles. With no specific Class C hard hat voltage rating, these helmets emphasize physical impact resistance over electrical safety. If your job requires durable protection and comfort without electrical resistance, a Type 2 Class C hard hat is a reliable choice.
- Class E (Electrical): Type 2 Class E hard hats offer electrical insulation up to 20,000 volts, making them suitable for high-voltage work environments such as utility maintenance and power line operations. These helmets, often recognized as Class E full-brim or Class E carbon fiber hard hats, combine top and side impact protection with top-tier electrical insulation. The best Class E hard hats are available in various designs, including full-brim and CSA Type 2 Class E hard hat options, to meet rigorous safety standards.
- Class G (General): Type 2 Class G hard hats offer electrical insulation up to 2,200 volts, making them suitable for roles with moderate electrical risks, like construction and factory work. Known for their side and top impact resistance, these hard hats are often referred to as G-class safety helmets or Class G protective hard hats. With a hard hat Class G rating, these helmets strike a balance between electrical protection and impact resistance.
We offer Type 2 hard hats with extensive customization options and versatile Class C, Class E, and Class G ratings, ensuring optimal safety and a professional look for any job. Whether you need a lightweight, breathable Class C hard hat, a high-voltage resistant Class E helmet, or a balanced protection Class G hard hat, our Type 2 hard hats deliver superior side and top protection to suit any industry’s demands.
